MALARIA PARASITAEMIA IN SCHOOL CHILDREN IN KUMASI METROPOLIS
G.K. Amofah & C. Adjei-Acquah
SUMMARY
A multip-stage sampling technique was used to select 1508 school children (3 - 10 years) in the Kumasi Metropolis. The degree of malaria parasitaemia and other characteristics were studied to provide baseline a data for planned malaria control programme. The average parasit density index was 4.4. All the malaria parasite were Plasmodium falciparum.
A positive correlation between area of residence (and hence level of environmental development) and degree of malaria is shown.
KEY-WORDS: Malaria, Parasite rate, Parasite density index, Kumasi
